Check website rankings in search engine for free

One of my favourite books is The Art of War by Sun Tzu.  The Art of War is one of the oldest and most successful books on military strategy in the world. From my own understanding, strategy should not be based on an established list, but requires quick and appropriate responses to changing conditions. As a website owner, I find this strategy applicable because search engine algorithm changes all the time. While i am not at war with anyone at the moment, one of my favourite quotes from this book is “If you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss”.

Most internet statups are like a small fish in a big ocean, struggling to get better ranking in the search engine so that they can get more internet traffic. Unfortunately, without a proper SEO strategy, it is like firing blanks. One of my favourite methods of SEO is to know my website ranking in the search results as well as my competitor websites. These big guns have already done all the research for the most searched keywords, so i am just using that information to apply on my own websites.

Previously i have to check my website ranking by flicking through page by page in the search engine until i find my desired website. It was tedious and time consuming. Right now, i check rank in search engines is Rank Checker, a free Firefox plugin that tracks where any site ranks in Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft Bing search results. Looking at the ranking will enable me to appreciate and understand general algorithmic trends and find out if the the methods i am using for SEO is showing results.
